First heard on BBC Radio 4 in 1981, this is the rarely aired radio sequel to Dad’s Army, created by Harold Snoad and Michael Knowles, who adapted Jimmy Perry and David Croft’s classic TV series. The pilot episode, set in 1948, involves the retired Captain Mainwaring (Arthur Lowe) deciding to renovate a pier in the fictional town of Frambourne-on-Sea. This was Lowe’s only appearance before his death; he was replaced as the bumbling captain by Bill Pertwee.
