Secrets Of Great British Castles

8PM, CH5

Castles have shaped Britain’s landscape for almost a thousand years, home to some of the greatest heroes and villains to have walked through our national history. Not just a fortress, palace and residence, a truly great castle is also ‘a symbol of power, majesty and fear’. In this new series, Dan Jones (right) uncovers the secrets of six of the best, packed to the ramparts with stories of warfare, treachery, intrigue, passion and murder. He begins by exploring the dark history of the ‘most besieged castle in the land’ – Edinburgh.

Squash and ricotta ravioli is on the menu, along with a toasted stone fruit crumble that’s just crying out to have a big dollop of custard poured over it.

Would I Lie To You?

Sadly, the latest series is over, but here’s a chance to see team captains David Mitchell and Lee Mack – plus host Rob Brydon – swapping tall tales (and a few truths) with guests including Brian Blessed, Hugh Dennis, Martin Kemp and Claudia Winkelman in this laugh-till-you-cry compilation of previously unseen footage.

Meanwhile, Kate Quilton visits Israel to discover how to choose the juiciest limes, and Matt Tebbutt heads for Italy to investigate the secrets of Parma ham.
