With the sixth series imminent, it’s still one of our most popular shows – the recent festive special topped the Christmas Day ratings. Though fictional, the stories are based on the lives of real people; in this one-off documentary, Stephen goes on a poignant journey to explore the fact behind the fiction, and to meet some of the people who have inspired the series’ most moving plotlines.

To mark Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27, this special edition finds Fiona Bruce and the team of experts meeting people whose lives were shattered by the events of the Second World War. A gold coin used as currency by a family fleeing over the Pyrenees and silver hidden from the Nazis are just some of the items featured.
