Terry Pratchett: Back In Black

9PM, BBC2 Terry Pratchett was a unique personality, and his life story receives a fittingly singular treatment here. Paul Kaye (right) plays Pratchett, telling his story through the Discworld author’s own words by drawing on the recordings of memories that he made before his death in 2015. It’s sweet, funny and so incredibly effective that, when the documentary elements kick in – interviews, tributes, etc, which are equally good on their own terms – it threatens to break the spell of hearing one last story from Pratchett. There’s a case for splitting this into two films.

Let It Shine

6.55PM, BBC1 The all-singing, all-dancing search for a group to star in a Take That musical shifts up another gear this week – it’s the first live show. Ricki Lake is the guest judge as the five bands perform, before the phone lines are opened for the public vote. After the results, at 8.45pm, the bottom two must sing to stay in. Good luck, everyone.

Casualty

7.55PM, BBC1 The day of the tribunal arrives, and Connie puts on a nasty show as she drags Elle’s name through the mud. She even brings her poor daughter along to see the whole sorry affair. Thankfully, the hearing is chaired by a wise, old-school surgeon – dressed in an impeccable suit – who restores some dignity to proceedings.

Taboo

9.15PM, BBC1 More darkness, and plenty of throaty threats from Tom Hardy, as this relentless revenge drama drives onward. Tonight, James (Hardy) hears a home truth about his mum, and doesn’t take it very well. Then, the East India Company moves against him, and he channels that rage into ruthless action.
