1977

The Good Life’s Richard Briers played a wannabe swinger in one-off ITV comedy Swap You One Of These For One Of Those. In real life, though, the late star enjoyed a happy, 57-year marriage to actress Ann Davies.

1987

Richard Briers’s Good Life co-star Felicity Kendal also appeared in a racy series, called The Mistress. The BBC comedy upset some viewers who didn’t approve of Felicity’s character having an affair with a married man.

1997

ITV’s adaptation of Catherine Cookson’s The Moth starred Jack Davenport as a young man leaving the shipyards to become a carpenter. The production crew included future Hairy Bikers stars Dave Myers (chief hair stylist) and Si King (location manager).

2007

Maxine Peake played Tracey Temple in Confessions Of A Diary Secretary, ITV’s saucy comedy about Tracey’s affair with John Prescott. Maxine (right, with John Henshaw as the deputy PM) said, ‘I wouldn’t have slept with Prescott if he’d been the last man alive.’
