Jolyon Jenkins goes in search of mystical experiences as he meets up with various ‘psychonauts’ to explore inner space. He steps into a flotation tank, where the kind of irritating music usually pumped out in beauty salons wafts away in the background. Epsom salt makes the water buoyant, but Jolyon fails to be carried away on an astral wave. He tries a few other short – but legal – cuts to bliss in this first of a new series, and reports on his findings.
