WINE LIST

Six delightful wines this week, plus a few matches for the pancake recipes

- MATTHEW JUKES’

1 2014 Dandelion, Lionheart of the Barossa Shiraz, South Australia

£12.95, nywines.co.uk and vinneuf.co.uk

Pound for pound this must be the most impressive shiraz on the shelves today. With broad brushstrokes of plum and damson fruit underpinned with power, bravado and might, this is an unmissable wine for fans of heroic reds.

2 2016 Pheasant Gully, Shiraz/ Cabernet Sauvignon, South Eastern Australia

£8.50, reduced to 2 for £12 until Tuesday, M&S If you fancy a bargain, grab a few bottles of this jolly red blend before the deal ends. Smooth and crammed with spicy blackberry notes, it’s a winter warmer. The 2015 vintage is a beauty, too.

3 2016 Margaret River, Semillon/ Sauvignon Blanc, Western Australia

£11, Marks & Spencer Rustle up the Russian Blinis With Smoked Salmon and then pour this languid beauty. Your jaw will hit the floor when you taste the lime and elderflower notes, and it matches the dill flavour with consummate skill.

4

2016 Brancott Estate, Terroir Series Sauvignon Blanc, Awatere Valley, Marlborough,

New Zealand

£10, Sainsbury’s, from tomorrow

This thrilling, zesty white is my favourite Brancott release in years. It’s pinpoint accurate for the Italian Baked Pancakes With Ricotta And Tomato.

5

2016 Yealands Estate, Single Vineyard PGR, Awatere Valley, Marlborough,

New Zealand

£13.95, nywines.co.uk The Indian-Style Pancakes have tricky flavours, but this is one of the finest wines imaginable for challenging Asian cuisine. It’s a phenomenal blend of pinot gris, riesling and gewurztraminer.
