Aidan won’t run

Ross Poldark flirts with becoming an MP in this series – but Aidan Turner would run a mile at the prospect of going into politics. ‘People in positions of power tell Ross it would be sensible for him to get into Parliament,’ says Aidan. ‘But politics isn’t for me. I’ll stick to what I’m doing – it’s working out all right!’

Talking of Poldark... Line Of Duty’s Adrian Dunbar reckons his character Ted Hastings should get a scything scene like Ross. ‘I think I might drop a hint about viewers seeing Ted tending to his garden in the next series. If he has a scythe in his hand, all the better.’

Photos of teacher Emma Keane sunbathing on a tropical beach in Channel 4 drama Ackley Bridge weren’t all they seemed. Liz White, who plays Emma, reveals, ‘It wasn’t the Caribbean – I was lying on a towel in a store cupboard at the former school where we film in Halifax. The tropical background was added later!’

Hugh Dennis is to host a two-hour celebration of commercials, ending with a vote for the best advert of all time. Possibly... The Best Adverts In The World will air on ITV later this year. A source says, ‘Hugh has voiced many commercials such as Heinz soup and Sellotape so he’s the perfect choice to celebrate them.’
