Blind Date

7PM, CH5

Fourteen years since it left our screens, the smash-hit dating show returns in the hope of wooing a new generation. It seems only fitting that the late, great Cilla Black should be replaced on hosting duties by her beloved chum, Paul O’Grady (who jokes that she left it to him in her will); he begins tonight by reflecting on their friendship and how much the world of dating has changed in 14 years. Not so the show – from this first episode, you’d think it was still 2003, which is, in many ways, no bad thing. And Paul, of course, fills Cilla’s shoes perfectly.

The Autistic Gardener

7PM, CH4

Award-winning autistic gardener Alan Gardner returns for a new, three-part series in which he uses his unique skills to transform tired gardens. The first episode finds him embarking on a quest to Lancashire, where he is given a whopping £10,000 budget with which to work his magic on an oddly shaped plot.

Pitch Battle

7.30PM, BBC1

The UK’s most talented choirs and vocal groups compete to be crowned the best in this new show, hosted by Mel Giedroyc. Donning the mantle of head judge, inspirational choirmaster Gareth Malone is joined by US singer Kelis and, each week, a special guest judge. Tonight’s hopefuls include a Polish jazz group and a Welsh choir.

Casualty

9PM, BBC1

It’s the day of Cal’s funeral, and emotions are running high as Ethan struggles to maintain his composure and bid his brother farewell; regular viewers would be well-advised to have a box of tissues to hand – this is one of the most heartfelt sendoffs in Casualty history. There won’t be a dry eye in the house. (Really.)
