The Alvin Show (1961) This was the first TV outing for the singing Chipmunks – Alvin, Simon and Theodore – created for a novelty single released in 1958. More records, TV serials and movies followed, and the trio of shrill rodents are still going strong. Gay Purr-ee (1962) Fantastic feline musical romance about farm cat Mewsette, who falls into bad company when con artist cat Meowrice lures her into Parisian society to marry her off for money. Judy Garland is the voice of a note-purrfect Mewsette.

The Jungle Book (1967) In the muchloved Disney film, two animals in particular sang their way into the hearts of children and adults alike. Bear Baloo had The Bare Necessities, while orang-utan King Louie wanted to ‘walk like you, talk like you’.

Sing (2016) Perky comedy in which animals take part in a song contest. There’s gorilla Johnny (Taron Egerton), a punk porcupine (Scarlett Johansson), a soulful elephant with stage fright (Tori Kelly) and a cocky crooner mouse (Seth MacFarlane).
