Ewan McGregor, 46, is playing not one, but two roles in the US crime drama Fargo (10pm, Ch4). Here’s what the talented Scottish actor has had to say about his life and career…

On his love of partying during the 1990s:

‘I loved it – I mean, to the point where I had to stop it, drinking and everything, because I liked it too much. I liked it to the point where I didn’t ever want it to end, so I would find myself in places at seven in the morning, not knowing anybody, just because I had this hunger – an excitement about going out.’

On his decision to quit alcohol in 2000:

‘Being a dad, being a husband, being an actor and being a drinker just didn’t fit together, and the only one I was prepared to lose was that one. So I just kicked it.’

On his 22-year marriage to wife Eve:

‘I get asked what’s the secret to a happy marriage a lot, and there’s no answer to it without trivialising it. You can’t just say,

“If you do this or do that, you’ll have a great marriage,” because it doesn’t work like that. There’s no secret other than to be in love with the woman you’re sharing your life with.’

On his famous on-screen nudity:

‘I’m doing my bit for the women’s movement. The women have always been naked in movies and now, I’m just desperate to take my clothes off as much as possible.’

On his role as the young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars films:

‘I love talking to kids about it, because they have great questions about how things work: “Do you have your lightsaber with you?”’
