DID YOU KNOW? Nicole Scherzinger

-

As the former Pussycat Doll continues in her role as a judge on The X Factor (8pm, ITV), we look at some facts that you might not know about the flamboyant pop star…

She was born in the Hawaiian capital of Honolulu on 29 June 1978, which makes her 39, although fellow judge Louis Walsh recently had his doubts: ‘Nobody knows what age she is, but she’s older than she says she is,’ he claimed.

She first found fame in 2000 when she auditioned on the US reality show Popstars, and won a place in the short-lived girl group Eden’s Crush. Their first and only single, Get Over Yourself, reached number eight in the US Billboard charts.

The Pussycat Dolls were originally founded as a burlesque troupe by choreographer Robin Antin in 1995. After attracting widespread media coverage,

Antin decided to turn the Dolls into a pop group in 2003 and recruited Scherzinger as a member. The band went on to become worldwide bestsellers, with several hits including their chart-topping Don’t Cha. She credits US pop star Whitney Houston as being her greatest musical influence.

She has a younger sister named Ke’ala. In 2012, she publicly revealed her eight-year struggle with bulimia. ‘I never did drugs, but hurting myself was my addiction. The music is what saved me. That’s the only thing I can trust,’ she explained.

She had a long-term relationship with the British Formula 1 driver

Lewis Hamilton and is now dating the Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov.
