FIVE THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT ME...

- CATHERINE ZETA-JONES

1

There are still some words I say differently to Americans, like aubergine instead of eggplant, so my kids make fun of me. When they do, I always just say, ‘Whatever, where I come from it’s called an aubergine.’ It’s a prettier word anyway.

2

I’m competitive – I wouldn’t be here today if I wasn’t. I’m not ruthless, but I’m competitive enough to brush myself off after I’ve been knocked down. And I’m super-competitive when I’m playing Monopoly with the family too.

3

Gone With The Wind and The Thorn Birds are the only two books my mother has ever given to me. She was a Gone With The Wind freak – she had some awful plates with Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara on – so I understood that. But why my Catholic mother gave me The Thorn Birds when I was 14 is anybody’s guess.

Cooking is a talent I prefer to keep in my back pocket. I’m a better cook than I let on. I pretend I can’t cook because then someone else has to do it. I only cook when I want to, I’m actually a secret masterchef.

5

My husband loves the new TV I bought him as much as he loves me! It’s a really big curved one that fits into our TV room perfectly. When he’s watching the football on it he says he feels like he’s there. To see him so happy makes me a happy girl too.
