For many of us, the late John Noakes, who died in May, was the have-a-go hero of our childhood. During the golden era of children’s television, the Blue Peter presenter’s daredevil exploits had us on the edge of our seats; we had simply never seen anyone risking life and limb on camera like he did. From joining the RAF for a five-mile free fall to climbing Nelson’s Column without a harness, John set the bar for presenters who followed and, with Border collie Shep, formed one of TV’s best-loved double acts. This documentar­y pays tribute to a true one-off.

Feeling overlooked by his father, Elle’s surly teenage son, Blake, is giving his mother cause for concern again this week, and turns to Jacob for support – only for his mum to do the same thing. As Jacob finds himself caught between mother and son, he receives shocking news that leaves him reeling.
