The host of Would I Lie To You? (8.30pm, BBC1) is also an actor, comedian, singer and impressionist. Here’s the impressive CV of a multitalented performer…
Family: Rob was born on May 3, 1965 in Baglan, Port Talbot. His mother was a schoolteacher and his father was a car dealer. He has one brother.
Education: He went to Porthcawl Comprehensive School, where he met his future Gavin & Stacey co-star Ruth Jones, and became a member of the school’s youth theatre group. He then attended the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff, but left after a year.
Early career: Aged 20, he started his professional broadcasting career on BBC Radio Wales, spending six years as a DJ. After being let go by the station, he headed to London in search of the big time – but had to settle for TV presenting jobs on the Shopping Channel. Big break: His TV breakthrough came in 2000 with Marion And Geoff, a series of ten-minute monologues featuring Rob as cab driver Keith Barret. Later that year, he cemented his position as one of Britain’s most promising talents opposite Julia Davis in the pitchblack comedy Human Remains. Established act: Rob’s career has flourished since with big roles in Gavin & Stacey (2007-10) and The Trip (2010-17). He is currently on a UK stand-up tour called I Am Standing Up.
