Then, this much-loved service begins, ushering in for many listeners the true start of Christmas. This year, we shall hear a new carol, specially written for the service by Huw Watkins, called Carol Eliseus, and there will be old favourites including God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.

Fashion designer David Emanuel – who designed the wedding dress worn by Diana, Princess of Wales – discovers what the nation is listening to at this special time of year. He will be building an eclectic playlist featuring tracks chosen by the listeners, as well as his celebrity pals. Plus, he chats to historian Lucy Worsley about why and when the tradition of festive decorations became popular in the UK.
