IN HIS OWN WORDS: Frank Skinner
As the contest Portrait Artist Of The Year (8pm, Sky Arts) returns, with Frank Skinner as co-host, we take a look at what the 60-year-old comedian has had to say during his career… On his comedy preferences:
On becoming a dad at 55 in 2012, when his son, Buzz – named after the astronaut Buzz Aldrin – was born:
‘The way I’m seeing it is that I probably won’t have to deal with those difficult teenage years.’
On turning 60 last year – he turns 61 on January 28:
‘I think you get an extra thrill when you get a job when you’re 60. Plus, I think I’m the only person ever who got to the BRIT Awards ceremony with an over-60s travel card.’
On what the Room 101 host would nominate for destruction, were he a guest:
‘Wheels on luggage. People have no awareness of the fact they’re much longer than they used to be.’ ‘I like proper jokes. I don’t like people who get applause because the audience agrees with them.’
On arguing with his long-term partner, comedy agent Cath Mason:
‘Our biggest row ever was over what colour my hair is. She said grey. But I said it had mousy brown streaks. Anyway, it spiralled out of control, and we broke up for two days.’
On losing ‘millions’ in the credit crunch:
‘I never really had the big panic about it… It also gave me my hunger back, I think.’
On finding time to relax:
‘I play the ukulele for at least an hour a day, and I find something really blissful about it.’
