Heavenly, hearty – and healthy!

From burgers and burritos to brownies, the delicious dishes that could add years to your life

Despite dramatic advances in medical science, the biggest premature killers in the UK today are largely preventable illnesses such as common cancers, heart disease and diabetes. And the number one culprit is our meat-heavy diet packed with processed foods.

It’s my life’s mission to study the links between disease and what we put on our plate. I’ve discovered that most premature deaths are avoidable if you eat a plantbased diet and adopt healthy lifestyle habits. To help you, I’ve created the ‘Daily Dozen’, a checklist of the things I encourage everyone to fit into their everyday routine.

The beauty of this? Nothing is banned. But the hope is that if you try to include the best choices possible, the less healthy options will naturally be crowded out.

By following these simple dietary guidelines, you could wipe out more than 90 per cent of your risk of developing diabetes, more than 80 per cent of your risk of having a heart attack, halve your risk of having a stroke, and reduce your overall cancer risk by more than a third.

Today and all next week in the Daily Mail, I will show you how. Today’s delicious, nutrient-packed recipes will start you on your life-lengthening journey – without sacrificing dessert! And each of the four-page pull-outs in the Daily Mail every day next week will be dedicated to the nutrients known to protect against specific diseases and conditions, with more recipes to help you meet your Daily Dozen.
