UK or USA? Scotland has my heart, although I recently went to LA because there are people I love there, like my sons’ godmothers, and it surprised and delighted me. Active or lazy? Gardening and cooking are the things I do to stay sane – or at least try to!

Books or magazines? I always read The Big Issue. With books, my choices are more random – Catcher In The Rye is my classic favourite. Wine or cocktails? I am alarmingly partial to margaritas and martinis. Chocolate or cheese? Cheese is my weakness – I could eat it on practically anything.

Documentary or drama? Strike on BBC1 was utterly gripping. It’s so tense I have to hold on to a cushion or two, but the cast were wonderful.
