Coming from the epic 2015 vintage, this juicy, blackberry-soaked Bordeaux is made from 55% merlot and 45% cabernet sauvignon. Offering stellar value for money, it’s a seriously smart red.

This is one of the finest Chiantis around, with superb depth of fruit and no shortage of swagger on the palate. The most exciting fact of all is that it requires no time in the cellar because it is drinking perfectly now.

2014 Beronia, Crianza Rioja, Spain

£7.65 until 17 April, Waitrose Beronia is a superb winery and this feisty, juicy young wine is a cracker. I prefer its exuberant fruit to the more expensive Reserva style, which is weighed down with oak. Grab it at this bargain price and decant it. The 2015 vintage is also available and is a cracker too.
