DID YOU KNOW? Gino D’Acampo
As the chef settles into his new role as a game show presenter with Gino’s Win Your Wish List (9pm, Ch5), here are a few things you might not know about the cheeky Italian…
Born in 1976 in Torre del Greco, Naples, in southern Italy, Gino spent time as a young boy in his grandfather’s restaurant kitchen, and fell in love with it. After training at catering college, he moved to London at the age of 19.
He rose to fame as a resident chef on ITV’s This Morning (his English pronunciation continues to have Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield in stitches), and has presented various shows, including Let’s Do Lunch With Gino & Mel (Sykes) and, to date, five series of Gino’s Italian Escape – he has twice toured the UK with a live stage show to accompany the series.
He won the ninth series of I’m A
Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2009. Gino has set several Guinness World
Records, including one – since beaten – for making 22 ravioli in under two minutes. In 2013, he launched his first eatery, My Pasta Bar; his empire now includes restaurants and a pizza and prosecco bar. His first cookery book, Fantastico!, was published in 2007; he’s since published more than a dozen.
In 2015, while appearing on Celebrity Juice, he won 64,000 points for his team by signing a document to legally change his middle name to Sheffield. Gino, 42, met his wife, Jessica, when they both worked in a restaurant in Puerto Banus in Spain (‘We spent the first few weeks arguing!’). They live in Hertfordshire with their three children.
