STORY SO FAR: Amy Adams

-

Amy, 43, is currently starring as crime reporter Camille Preaker in Sharp Objects (9pm, Sky Atlantic). Here is how she became one of Hollywood’s hottest properties…

Early days: One of seven siblings, Amy was born in 1974 in Vicenza, Italy (where her father was stationed with the US Army), but raised in Castle Rock, Colorado from the age of eight.

Dancing queen: When she was 18, after training to be a ballerina, Amy decided she was

‘better suited’ to musical theatre, and spent a few years working as a dancer/waitress in ‘dinner theatre’ before winning a part in the movie Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999). However, it was another three years of bit parts before she nabbed her first major role, co-starring with Leonardo DiCaprio in Catch Me If You

Can (2002). But despite it being her big break, her career stalled, and she found herself out of work for a year. And she’s off! At the age of 31, Amy was considering a career change when she was nominated for an Oscar for her turn in low-budget indie film Junebug (2005). Her role as Giselle in Enchanted (2007) saw her nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe; suddenly, the work (and further nominations) started coming in thick and fast, including: Charlie Wilson’s War

(2007), Doubt (2008), Julie & Julia (2009),

Leap Year (2010), The Muppets (2011),

The Master, Trouble With The Curve (both 2012), Her, American Hustle (both 2013), Big Eyes (2014), Arrival and Nocturnal Animals (both 2016).

Next up? Backseat, The Woman In The Window, The True American and Disenchanted are all in the works.
