The Hunt For Red October (1990)

Alec Baldwin was the first to play the analyst on screen in the Cold War defection tale based on Clancy’s debut novel. You can find it on Sky On

Patriot Games (1992) & Clear And Present Danger (1994)

Negotiatio­ns for Baldwin to continue as Ryan fell apart, and Harrison Ford (left) stepped in for the two sequels. Ryan is retired in Patriot Games, and pitted against Sean Bean’s Irish terrorist – while Clear And Present Danger finds him as Acting Deputy Director of the CIA, and fighting drugs cartels. The Sum Of All Fears (2002)

Neo-Nazis are trying to start a nuclear war in the moderately successful 21st-century reboot with Ben Affleck (left). On Sky On Demand and Now TV.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014)

Another reboot, this origin story for Ryan begins with 9/ 11 and features Star Trek’s Chris Pine, but didn’t excel at the box office. On Netflix.

Jack Ryan (2018)

Amazon’s cinematic action series takes up the story of Ryan four years into his work as a CIA analyst, and stars The Office US’s John Krasinski (right) as this ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’. The second season is filming this summer.
