Strictly Come Dancing Launch Show 2018

As sure as autumn follows summer, the entertainm­ent juggernaut that is Strictly Come Dancing series 16 roars into view over the horizon in a cloud of sequins and dry ice. Tonight, Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly will be introducin­g the stars – including Katie Piper (right) – to the profession­al dancers whose pockets they will be living in for the next three months. Then, in timehonour­ed Strictly tradition, they’ll take to the dance floor for the first time, beneath the famous twirling glitterbal­l, to show us their early moves.

After eight intensive weeks, the BBC Proms reaches its finale tonight. With veteran conductor Andrew Davis at the helm, it goes out in flag-waving traditiona­l style with a programme that includes music by Stanford and Berlioz, plus the signature soaring sing-along sign-off.
