10PM, RADIO 3

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver was a global bestseller, and has become a mainstay of reading groups. The book deftly weaves religion and African politics into a gripping family saga. Barbara’s books deal with big themes, and her new novel, Unsheltered, tells the story of a hard-working husband and wife who do all the right things, yet end up destitute. Barbara, who finds fame hard to deal with, gives a rare interview about her work in this literature and language programme.
