PICK OF THE DAY

-

Torvill & Dean 9.15PM, ITV

This is such a good idea that it seems amazing that it hasn’t been done before.

It’s the inspiring dramatised story of Britain’s favourite ice-dancing couple, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, and what it took for them to conquer the world. We first meet the couple as children in 1968 in their respective family homes, and follow them as they take their first tentative steps on to the ice – and right through to that golden night at the Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984. Poppy Lee Friar and Will Tudor take on the lead roles in a feel-good Christmas treat.

Zog 4.50PM, BBC1

Enchanting adaptations of the works of Julia Donaldson have become a Christmas Day tradition. After the success of The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Room On The Broom comes this tale of Zog, an accidentprone dragon for whom mischief is never far away.

The stellar voice cast is led by Lenny Henry, Tracey Ullman and, as Zog, Hugh Skinner.

Call The Midwife Christmas Special 7.45PM, BBC1

Even the meanest Scrooge would be unable to resist the joys of the season after this episode of a show that always delivers at Christmas. There are carols, snow, Santa, babies and, of course, a message – this time, about the importance of giving rather than receiving at this special time of year.

The Great Christmas Bake Off 8PM, CH4

Sandi Toksvig, Noel Fielding, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are back in the tent for their traditional festive gettogether. Back to do battle in a special one-off will be 2017 contestants Liam and Flo, and Jane and Andrew from 2016. But who will be crowned Christmas Star Baker? MM
