CORONATION STREET

-

DAYLIGHT ROBBERY

David Neilson, who plays Roy, is one of the show’s strongest actors and has an ability to express inner turmoil with the tiniest expression. The loss of his mother Sylvia has not produced histrionics, but exquisitely written scenes, including with his best friend Carla (pictured), in which David has excelled.

Now Roy faces another problem when Paul steals Sylvia’s valuable ring and sells it for just £200. With Gemma in hot pursuit, Paul threatens to tell Chesney about her past if she grasses him up. Given that everyone has forgiven Gemma everything (not least her dodgy wardrobe and hair), this shouldn’t matter. When the pair become locked in a van trying to get the ring back, they make up and admit they have missed each other. I’m not convinced by Paul, who continues to be a Person of Interest for Billy. Can someone tell the sex-obsessed vicar about Manchester’s Canal Street? He doesn’t have to wait for gays to arrive on the cobbles.

I’m also not convinced by Peter’s boat, which looks as if it wouldn’t survive a night in an eyebath, let alone an ocean. And where are the traffic wardens who’d place a parking ticket on its bow every day? Abi is convinced she’ll accompany Peter on his travels. Please just chop up the boat for firewood and have done with this ludicrous plot.

Tracy’s name checks for Steve last week: 11. Please sort this. Or give Tracy a new man. Steve knows his name. And so do we.
