-

As Sandi, 60, introduces another round of the quite interesting quiz, QI (10pm, BBC2), we look at some facts you might not know about the comedian and presenter…

Although she is a naturalised British citizen, she was born in Copenhagen on

May 3, 1958. Sandi’s father, Claus, was a Danish journalist and foreign correspondent who married Briton Julie Anne Brett in London; Sandi spent much of her youth in countries other than Denmark and Britain.

As an 11-year-old, in July 1969, Sandi accompanied her father – who had been posted to the US at the time – to Nasa’s mission control centre in Houston, Texas to witness the first moon landing. Sandi held the hand of Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong’s secretary during the landing to help to keep her calm.

She read law, archaeology and anthropology at Girton College, Cambridge, graduating with a first-class degree. While at university, she joined the famous Footlights drama club, performing in its first all-woman show and contributing material to the Footlights Revue, which starred Stephen Fry,

Hugh Laurie and Emma Thompson.

Her on-screen career started in children’s TV. From 1982 to 1986, she presented No 73, followed by the likes of The Saturday Starship and Motormouth.

Sandi married her partner, Debbie, in 2014; she has three children, Jesse, Megan and Theo.
