Our 52-page guide has Jaci Stephen’s Soap Watch, your Movie Planner and a preview of Curfew, the futuristic thriller starring Sean Bean that’s a very wild ride

1 My character, French detective Julien Baptiste, was in The Missing and I stayed in touch with the creators, Harry and Jack Williams. When they told me Julien was getting his own show, I was very happy. Then when I read the script I said, ‘There are so many words!’, because the story is told from Julien’s viewpoint. There was some pressure.

The set was like the Tower of Babel – there were so many languages being spoken. We had Flemish and Icelandic directors, some Flemish and Polish actors, as well as the English ones. And I’m Turkish and French.

While filming in the UK, I was recognised by fans, who always asked about Julien’s bad leg. ‘How’s the limp?’ they’d say. In France, pah, no one was interested. No one is a prophet in his own country.

We did some scenes in Amsterdam’s red light district. It was poignant, with all the tourists looking

at the naked girls. Our show tells of its dark side, when Edward Stratton (Tom Hollander) asks Julien to find his sex-worker niece who has gone missing. We also went to Antwerp and in these cities, where water is all around, you feel relaxed.

Every day the team told me to be careful about bicycles in Amsterdam. As soon as I walked out into the street and was nearly hit by one, I understood why. The only way to get over it was to get on a bike myself.
