The Nile: Egypt’s Great River

9PM, CH5 Bettany Hughes’s epic Egyptian adventure is sadly coming to an end – but not without one last incredible jaunt. As she bids a fond farewell to her boat, she reaches the beautiful city of Aswan, where a hotel once frequented by Winston Churchill has a suite named after him. She also visits a temple dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek – where a 3,300-year-old stone message board is being unearthed – and an ostentatious temple built by Ramesses II for himself. See the magical moment when the rising sun pierces the interior, which occurs only twice a year.

Celebrity Crystal Maze

8PM, CH4

This week, model Nancy Sorrell takes charge of her husband, Vic Reeves, plus the cricketer Graeme Swann, reality TV’s Ferne McCann and wee comic Susan Calman. They’re not the best-matched team on the game show, and confusion is constantly etched on their faces, but will they manage to win the new Mega Crystal?

Still Game

9PM, BBC1

Jack and Victor do their best to cheer up Winston after he gets bad news about his one remaining leg, and they set about building a ramp into the pub for him – after a pint, of course. What could possibly go wrong? Isa dices with death as she takes a new cleaning job at the undertakers, and there’s a tragedy for the sweary Scots.

Gardeners’ World

9.30PM, BBC2 Gardening is said to be good for the soul, and Adam Frost meets a community in Worksop proving that theory true. Plus, Carol Klein visits the wonderfully medieval Aberglasney Gardens in Wales, and if you haven’t yet planted anything, then fret not – Monty Don has sound advice on late summer harvests.
