NATE’S DANGEROUS GAME

Emmerdale new boy Jurell Carter on the huge risk his character is taking by starting a steamy affair with Moira

Emmerdale lovers Moira Dingle and Nate Robinson are headed for heartbreak after their fling turns into a fullblown affair. The farmhand and his boss finally gave in to passion last week and ended up rolling in the hay at Butlers Barn behind the backs of their unwitting partners.

September is set to be a sizzler for the pair, but October will bring ‘a lot of tears, a lot of action, and a lot of heartbreak’, according to the show’s producer Kate Brooks.

It’s all great news for Jurell Carter, the young actor who plays Nate, but less so for his mum, who’s a huge fan of Emmerdale.

Jurell, who made his first appearance in April, says, ‘It’s been brilliant being thrown into such a big storyline and doing such highly charged scenes with an amazing actor like Natalie J Robb, who plays Moira. But it’s a bit weird because I used to watch Natalie on the show with Mum, and now we’re kissing on screen. I know Mum’s been watching me kissing Nat, and I know she doesn’t like seeing her son getting steamy! But at the same time, she knows I’m doing a job, and she’s proud.’

What do Moira and Nate see in each other? ‘Moira feels neglected and she’s flattered by this young farmhand paying her attention,’ says Jurell. ‘Moira appeals to Nate sexually and mentally because she is a strong, attractive woman.’

This week the sexual tension crackles between them as each becomes jealous of the other’s relationship – Moira is, of course, married to dangerous bad boy Cain Dingle, while Nate is dating Amy Wyatt.

‘ The fact they’re both jealous

shows that they have feelings for one another,’ says Jurell. ‘It’s a dangerous game for both Moira and Nate.

‘Cain is a scary character, which does make it risky. But I don’t think Nate truly knows Cain’s reputation,’ he adds. ‘Maybe if he did he wouldn’t be making the same moves because it’s not going to end nicely if Cain finds out.

‘At the same time, Nate’s got feelings for Amy so he’s making the situation harder for himself. But the storyline is exciting for

viewers, and for me as an actor, and I’m looking forward to it.’

Emmerdale is by far Jurell’s biggest job – he’s previously had small roles in daytime series Doctors, critically acclaimed drama Kiri and the comedy Home, about a Syrian asylum seeker in Dorking.

‘Corrie’s directors and producers have given me a massive opportunity,’ says Jurell. ‘Every day I’m grateful, I can’t say it enough. I’m just trying to do the best job I can.’
