PICK OF THE DAY
THE BRITISH TRIBE NEXT DOOR
9.15PM, CH4 ★★★★ We may dream of moving our home to warmer, more exotic climes, but Scarlett Moffatt has done just that. The Gogglebox star and her family have taken their whole house from County Durham to remote Namibia (well, an exact replica has been built). The Himba tribe marvel at seeing how Brits live – even just watching mum Betty do the ironing (pictured) – and the Moffatts are humbled by their neighbours’ simplicity. It’s a bizarre yet charming concept, with many poignant moments as these two very different tribes live side by side.
SAVING LIVES AT SEA
8PM, BBC2 ★★★
The RNLI volunteers in the southeast of England face a gargantuan rescue mission this week: saving the crew of a 50,000-ton cargo ship that has struck a sandbank. The sight of their tiny lifeboats against the huge vessel – it’s 180 metres long – is no laughing matter, with the ship listing over at a perilous angle.
THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF
8PM, CH4 ★★★★ Whisks at the ready – it’s semi-final time! Patisserie is the order of the day, requiring an incredibly steady hand and a flair for elegance. This week’s technical is difficult as the bakers tackle a truly towering croquembouche, and the showstopper requires them to put their creativity literally on display. Who’ll get to the final?
LOVE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE
9PM, BBC2 ★★★
In this final episode, resident cupid Sara Cox helps Welsh shepherd Ioan, who dreams of owning a farm and sharing it with a lady. He invites three women to his home for some rural romance, but will his frantic workload have them running from the hills? Or will he be getting a new addition to his flock? TESSA JONES
