The moon rises and the trees shed their leaves in Catherine Bott’s seasonal selection of music. She opens with Autumn from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and includes Grieg’s In Autumn. Lang Lang’s recording of Lu Wencheng’s Autumn Moon Over Calm Lake is on the bill, and the programme ends with Gerald Finzi’s The Fall Of The Leaf.

Early cinema audiences would be startled by close-ups, but we are now used to all kinds of cutting, splicing and sampling in music and the visual arts. In this programme, the film-maker Mike Figgis – whose films include Internal Affairs and Leaving Las Vegas – considers how editing in all branches of culture has affected the way we view the world.

Steve Hogarth from Marillion is Gary Davies’s guest for the My 80s spot tonight. Steve joined the rock band in 1989, taking over as lead singer from Fish, and his first album with Marillion, Seasons End, reached the top ten in the charts that year; the ever evolving band is about to embark on a late autumn tour. Gary will also be marking the 40th anniversar­y of the debut Simple Minds album with a Mastermix of some the Glaswegian band’s tracks. SJ
