The Welsh actor Luke Evans will be talking about his debut album of modern and classic songs, At Last, while the Dutch conductor Andre Rieu gives details of his big-frocked orchestra’s coming tour.

2.45PM, RADIO 4 HHHH Ray Davies has drawn heavily on his childhood memories of growing up in a working-class family in north London for this drama – with songs – set in post-war Britain. Working with

Dawn O’porter (10am, Radio 2) the writer Paul Sirett, Ray evokes a time of grief for those killed in the war and the hope that life was going to get better. Arthur, Ray’s brother-in-law, doesn’t share that hope. He is bitter at the way he, having served in the armed forces, struggles to find work, and makes a decision that tears the family apart. Claire Martin, the English jazz singer, worked on the Queen Elizabeth for two years, and the experience has served her well.
