The Welsh actor Luke Evans will be talking about his debut album of modern and classic songs, At Last, while the Dutch conductor Andre Rieu gives details of his big-frocked orchestra’s coming tour.

2.45PM, RADIO 4 HHHH Ray Davies has drawn heavily on his childhood memories of growing up in a working-class family in north London for this drama – with songs – set in post-war Britain. Working with
Dawn O’porter (10am, Radio 2) the writer Paul Sirett, Ray evokes a time of grief for those killed in the war and the hope that life was going to get better. Arthur, Ray’s brother-in-law, doesn’t share that hope. He is bitter at the way he, having served in the armed forces, struggles to find work, and makes a decision that tears the family apart. The songs include
Waterloo Sunset, The Village Green and Mr Churchill Says.

Claire Martin, the English jazz singer, worked on the Queen Elizabeth for two years, and the experience has served her well. She will be in session this afternoon with members of her trio for tracks from her recent album, Believin’ It.
