SHRAPNEL
2.15PM, RADIO 4 HHHH Trauma, like shrapnel, takes time to work to the surface. Nadine (Monica Dolan) is an experienced war reporter with, or so she supposes, nerves of steel. When, after a difficult assignment, she starts behaving oddly, her editor insists she has therapy. Here, we listen in as Nadine’s invisible war wounds are exposed to the air.

COSTING THE EARTH
9PM, RADIO 4 HHH
In 1957, the stretch of the Thames that flows through London was declared biologically dead; but as industry left the city, the river began to come back to life and now, it is home to some 3,000 seals and more than 150 species of fish. Over the next decade, more than £4 billion will be spent on further reducing pollution and improving habitats. Helen Czerski is co-ordinating a large-scale study of the Thames and here, she cruises the river to meet some of those who are determined to give Londoners a river to be proud of.
TWAYNA MAYNE
11PM, RADIO 4 HHH
Comedian Twayna Mayne, who is black, was adopted by a white Devon farmer’s daughter, and describes her childhood as a ‘reallife Disney film, but with black people’. In this programme, she talks about her upbringing with a refreshing lack of sentimentality and a lot of fierce wit. A coda in which she talks to Pauline Black has been awkwardly tacked on to the end of this programme. SJ
