UNRELIABLE MEMOIRS
9.45AM (FM), 12.30AM,
RADIO 4 ★★★★★
Clive James, who died in November, was a genius. He wrote novels and poetry, and was a consummate broadcaster and a serious intellectual. He was also a subtly elegant dancer of the Argentine tango. Clive, a man with perfect comic timing, loved life, as you can hear in this repeated broadcast of his wry, totally entertaining account of his early years.
ROAD TO LAUTREC
2.15PM, RADIO 4 ★★
Two rather smug ladies are joined by a retired bus conductor, to whom they are unbearably condescending, on a trip to a pretty village in France, where pink garlic is grown. This archly written play, recorded on location,
Lady Gaga (7pm, Radio 2) follows their trip. Must have been a nice jaunt on expenses for the cast and crew, but not much in this for the listener.
GHOST STORIES FROM AMBRIDGE
6.15PM, RADIO 4 ★★★
‘I’ll give you the room in the tower.’ Nothing good ever follows this line if it crops up in a ghost story. Jim Lloyd (John Rowe) of The Archers is ensconced in the dark attic of Lower Loxley with a trio of ghost stories, beginning with this one about a recurring nightmare that becomes terrifying reality.
MICHELLE VISAGE’S FABULOUS DIVAS
7PM, RADIO 2 ★★★★ Michelle Visage, who set fire to the floor doing the paso doble on Strictly Come Dancing, presents this special music show. Michelle, who once sang in a girl group called Seduction, has been a regular presenter on radio stations in Los Angeles, Miami and New York. Tonight, she’ll play some big, showstopping songs from the likes of Madonna, Aretha Franklin, Lady Gaga and Chaka Khan. SJ
