PICK OF THE DAY
THE TRIAL OF CHRISTINE KEELER
9PM, BBC1 ★★★★ This six-part drama delves into the infamous Profumo affair of the early 1960s, primarily through the eyes of one of its main protagonists, Christine Keeler (Sophie Cookson, right). Christine is a struggling model who is introduced to London society, and its sordid secrets, by well-connected osteopath Stephen Ward (James Norton). Christine will soon be at the centre of a scandal which will bring down powerful men and change the political landscape of 1960s Britain, but this is a woman with little interest in politics – she just wants to have fun.
THE REPAIR SHOP AT CHRISTMAS
7PM, BBC1 ★★★★
Jay Blades and the team have been as busy as Christmas elves for this festive special. Fixing classic presents from years gone by and past-theirbest treasures, they breathe new life into a rusty Chopper bike, a broken harmonium, and a threadbare bear that belongs to 88-year-old Beryl.
SNOW CATS AND ME
8PM, BBC2 ★★★★
Gordon Buchanan heads to chilly Russia to meet cat expert Victor Lukarevsky, who is devoted to rescuing and rehabilitating lynxes that have been held in captivity. Capturing stunning footage of rescued lynxes as they take their first tentative steps in a safe enclosure, this two-part film is a must for cat-lovers.
TOP GEAR NEPAL SPECIAL
9PM, BBC2 ★★★★ Petrolhead presenters Freddie Flintoff, Paddy Mcguinness and Chris Harris fire up three creaky jalopies for an arduous five-day trek from Kathmandu to Lo Manthang. They will have to cross mountains and deep gorges to reach their destination – that’s if they and their very old, very rickety cars can keep it together. SA
