6.35AM, RADIO 4 HHH The Port of Rotterdam is a place of steel, cement, girders and mile upon mile of containers. Goods come in from all over the world, are processed and exported from what is Europe’s busiest port. Surprising­ly, right in the middle of the harbour is a floating dairy farm, with 35 cows and a yoghurt-making facility. Nancy Nicolson climbs aboard this odd enterprise to meet the floating farm pioneers.

Many of them, in the course of their fractured childhoods, will be separated from their siblings, adding to their sense of being abandoned. In this report, we hear how separation from siblings can leave children with a haunting sense of loss that has a profound effect on their adult lives.

11PM, RADIO 2 HHHH Peggy Lee joined the Benny Goodman band early on in her career, then retired from show business when she got married. While the marriage lasted for eight years, the retirement was over pretty quickly, and by the mid-1940s, Peggy had a string of jazz-infused hits to her name. Don Black pays tribute to Miss Lee’s coolly impeccable musiciansh­ip tonight.
