WILD ANIMAL RESCUE

11.15AM/7PM, CH5 ★★★★ Cat-lovers are well-served by this first of a new series about animals in peril (daily until Thursday), which uses plenty of adorable kitten clips to illustrate efforts to rebuild the Scottish wildcat population. Then, the sweetness is turned to 11 as we visit the ‘Hedgehog Hosprickal’, where Joan Lockley is on permanent standby to save imperilled hogs (‘Just had a call about a hedgehog caught in twine’). In between all that, Bill Oddie steers the tone to something more like a cosy pub chat when he swaps barn owl stories with Yorkshire Vet Peter Wright (far right, with Oddie).

SILENT WITNESS

9PM, BBC1 ★★★

If you’re a commuter, hearing that a train’s been delayed by a tragic incident can be an all too familiar thing. For this moving new two-part case, Dr Nikki investigates when a body is found on the train tracks in London, and the postmortem triggers some uncomfortable memories from her childhood. Concludes tomorrow.

COLD FEET

9PM, ITV ★★★★

Just as the reality of Adam and Karen’s families living under one roof starts to set in, the situation suddenly gets a lot worse. But where would the drama be if it didn’t? Pete, meanwhile, is taking his duties in life endearingly seriously in a brisk, fun episode with some amusing fantasy sequences and a twist in the tale.

DIAMOND DEALERS AND COCKNEY GEEZERS

10PM, CH4 ★★★

This new documentary about three sweary and successful London jewellers is so full of larger-than-life characters that it almost feels like a sitcom. Trotters is run by 26-year-old Judd and his schoolmates, Alex and Kallum, and the big-oninstagram trio even jet off to New York here. ROBIN WIGGS

8PM, W ★★★★

The key to the success of this series is the very human way it presents both the paramedics and the patients. A pensioner is trapped inside her house at the start of this new series, and paramedic Luke (left) is very sweet with her. That doesn’t stop her disapproving of his beard, though.
