TONY ROBINSON’S HISTORY OF BRITAIN

8PM, CH5 ★★★★

Tony (right) explores the daily lives of those who lived through the Second World War, from soldiers who went to battle to those who kept the home fires burning. He meets Babs Clark, now in her 80s; as a young girl, she survived the Bethnal Green Tube disaster of 1943, which claimed the lives of 173 people in a terrible crush as people rushed to escape an air raid. He also describes the life of Corporal Eileen Heron, who trained Princess Elizabeth to drive and mend trucks with the Auxiliary Territorial Service.

THE GREATEST DANCER

6.30PM, BBC1 ★★★★

As the contest continues, only dance captain Oti Mabuse is yet to choose an act to take straight through to the live shows, so it’s over to her for this final week of auditions. And, as the callbacks get under way, it’s set to get feisty as Cheryl, Matthew Morrison, Todrick Hall and Oti fight to get the acts they want on their teams.

BONE DETECTIVES: BRITAIN’S BURIED SECRETS

8PM, CH4 ★★★

Tori Herridge and the team dig into a mystery unearthed at the site of a proposed car park near Andover, Hampshire. The remains of more than 100 men are found, thrown carelessly into their graves. Dating back to Anglo-saxon times, who were they, and why were they buried at such a remote location?

HOW THE VICTORIANS BUILT BRITAIN

9PM, CH5 ★★★

Famous for industry and innovation, the Victorians also knew how to play hard as well as work hard. As Michael Buerk finds out, it was an era of leisure for the masses – from seaside breaks and Turkish baths to public gardens and piers, tourism took off. SIMONE ANDREWS
