PICK OF THE DAY
DEATH IN PARADISE
9PM, BBC1 ★★★★
After all the complicated murders that happen on the island, the suicide of a woman who was electrocuted in a hotel bath should be a simple open-and-shut case. But when irreverent DI Neville Parker – Ralf Little (right, with Don Warrington), making his debut as Saint Marie’s new detective – arrives from Manchester to sign the case off, he fixates on the dead woman’s oral hygiene habits, and starts to think she was in fact killed. As a result, to his dismay, Neville is told to stay and find the culprit, so his visit isn’t as fleeting as hoped. Welcome to paradise, Ralf!
SECRETS OF THE MUSEUM
8PM, BBC2 ★★★★
This fun, exciting series goes behind the scenes of London’s Victoria & Albert Museum. From the amazing gowns of Christian Dior to a 100-year-old elephant toy, there’s nothing the experts can’t handle. This first episode also takes a peek at Kylie Minogue’s 2007 tour dressing room, while a curator investigates a gold snuffbox.
INSIDE THE CROWN: SECRETS OF THE ROYALS
9PM, ITV ★★★★★
The Queen’s ‘annus horribilis’ of 1992 saw her fighting scandal, public ridicule and even a fire at Windsor Castle (albeit not personally), but these are just some in the long list of events – such as an IRA assassination and Grenfell – that have tested our monarch. This part looks at how she has handled each.
BARRYMORE: THE BODY IN THE POOL
9PM, CH4 ★★★★
You may be familiar with the story of Stuart Lubbock’s body being found in the swimming pool of popular TV presenter Michael Barrymore in 2001, but this one-off documentary uses unseen footage and witness accounts to forensically explore that story. It’s a tense and gripping watch. TESSA JONES
