WRITING YORKSHIRE
11AM, 9PM, RADIO 4 EXTRA HHH
The poet and radio presenter
Ian Mcmillan begins a three-part literary tour of his home county of Yorkshire. He visits some of the streets, towns and high moorlands of Yorkshire that have inspired so much great writing. Then, to lighten the mood a little, Ian features an extract from a John Shuttleworth show, which finds the Maestro of the Yamaha on a mini-break in a guest house in Giggleswick.
AFTERNOON CONCERT
2PM, RADIO 3 HHH
While Patricia Kopatchinskaja’s musician parents toured the old Eastern Bloc with a state folk ensemble, young Patricia was looked after by her grandparents, who encouraged her to play the
Ian Mcmillan (11am, R4 Extra) violin. The family emigrated from Moldova to Vienna, where Patricia continued her studies, and now, she’s an international star. Patricia, who likes to play barefoot, gives a passionate performance of music by Schoenberg and Tchaikovsky in this concert recorded at last summer’s Lucerne Festival.
IN TUNE
