NOUGHTS + CROSSES

9PM, BBC1 ★★★★

This long-awaited adaptation of Malorie Blackman’s awardwinning book is breathtaking. The six-part series tells the tale of star-crossed lovers divided by race – lighter-skinned people and the black ruling class. Callum (Peaky Blinders’ Jack Rowan) is a Nought. He was friends with Sephy (Masali Baduza, right, with Rowan), a Cross – and the naive daughter of a black politician – when they were kids. They reconnect when he works at a party at her home – and their lives are now more complex in a prejudiced world. Meanwhile, Callum’s brother battles police brutality.

CRUFTS 2020

3PM, 8PM, CH4 ★★★★ Over the next four days, Clare Balding hosts coverage from the world’s largest dog show on Channel 4 and More4. Today’s editions look at how dogs affect our mental health and lifestyles, and there are highlights of selected events. Clare also chats to Scarlett Moffatt, while WWE wrestlers pick out favourite pooches.

SECRETS OF THE MUSEUM

8PM, BBC2 ★★★

Just a quarter of the V&A’S artefacts are on display and now, their huge stores are being relocated to a new high-tech home. Curator Jane has to make sure the 3,000 costumes in the Theatre and Performance collection are fully catalogued before the move – and she unearths some memorable outfits.

HOSPITAL

9PM, BBC2 ★★★★

This week, the cameras are at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, which does an incredible job of caring for highly unwell kids. Elsie has had 11 operations in her eight months, and another is on the horizon. Jack, now 22, was left with a catastrophic brain injury after being hit by a car aged eight, and his troubles are ongoing. TESSA JONES
