PICK OF THE DAY
WILD CUBA: A CARIBBEAN JOURNEY
8.30PM, BBC2 ★★★★
This gorgeous little creature (right) is a bee hummingbird; the tiniest bird in the world, it’s found in only one place, and it’s just one of the amazing animals that Colin StaffordJohnson comes across while exploring the areas of Cuba that you’re not likely to have seen before. The natural magic of this Caribbean country will have you in awe of the wonders that can occur when nature is left to thrive. Also in this first of two parts, Colin sees the migration of thousands of crabs – you’ll be left openmouthed at the spectacle.
THE YORKSHIRE STEAM RAILWAY: ALL ABOARD
7.30PM, CH5 ★★★
This week’s episode is a real treat for people who know their locomotives as an annual steam event brings together 15 incredible machines from across the country. Star of the show for Piglet is his 9F, but he’s excited about seeing the Union of South Africa, the sister engine of the Mallard.
CELEBRITY BRITAIN BY BARGE: THEN & NOW
8.30PM, CH5 ★★★ Trundling through Scotland, the gang join the Glasgow and Edinburgh Union Canal. Jennie Bond and Anne Diamond have their nerves put to the test as they meet the eerie ‘ghost’ of the murderer William Burke, who worked on the canal. Bill Oddie also marvels at the birds as the barges take to the air.
GREG JAMES’ SPORT RELIEF HEROES
10.35PM, BBC1 ★★★★
One of the best parts of the event is watching celebrities taking on gruelling challenges for charity. Radio 1’s Greg chats to some – including Davina Mccall, who did a 500-mile triathlon, and Eddie Izzard, who ran 27 marathons in 27 days – about what drove them to do these incredible feats. TJ
