SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES

5PM, CLASSIC HHH Hans Zimmer’s score for Gladiator set the tone for many subsequent historical epics. Andrew Collins includes music from Ridley Scott’s award-winning film, plus Zimmer’s music for The Lion King and Inception. Alan Silvestri’s themes for Forrest Gump, Back To The Future and the Marvel franchise are also on the show.

INFECTIOUS PERSONALITIES

9PM, RADIO 2 HHHH

This comedy show isn’t for the squeamish, and you won’t want to listen to it if you’re eating. Ed Patrick, a comedian and

NHS anaesthetist, invites Sex Education’s Sindhu Vee and Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker to talk about health fears and horrible medical experiences;

Lenny Henry (9pm, Radio 4) neither of them holds back. It’s all pretty near the knuckle, but Sindhu pulls off the seemingly impossible by being funny about fibroids. Handle this one with tongs.

DAY RELEASE

9PM, RADIO 4 HHHH Lenny Henry, a real radio star these days, turns in another impressive performance in this repeated series about an old lag who’s coming to the end of his sentence. He’s been out on a day release scheme, but finds, after all those years inside, that the outside world is a strange place.

ALWAYSJUNE

9.30PM, RADIO 2 HHHH

Vicki Pepperdine and Morgana Robinson have written and now star in this sitcom set in a decaying lodging house. The house is called the Rookery, where, according to landlady

June, they’re running a very successful moth conservation project. There’s a bit of a surfeit of lovable eccentrics, and some of the cast overdo the funny voices, but the script’s inventive and there are plenty of good gags, zip and mad energy. SUSAN JEFFREYS
