PICK OF THE DAY
GROWING UP GIFTED
9PM, BBC2 ★★★★ Concluding a project that began three years ago, this two-part programme finds out how the six talented and ambitious youngsters – three boys and three girls – have fared as they prepare to sit their GCSES. All from poorer backgrounds, they hope that realising their potential will lift them out of the poverty they have grown up in. First up are the boys – Kian, Liam (right) and Jamarley – who are working towards careers in physics, medicine and music, and must all achieve high grades. Tune in next week to see how the girls have got on.
THE REPAIR SHOP
8PM, BBC1 ★★★★
The oldest item ever brought to the workshop keeps horologist Steve busy as more owners bring in broken heirlooms with fascinating and heartwarming back stories. Silver expert Brenton gets to work piecing together a lifeboat compass with a dramatic history, and bike restorer Tim is in search of renewed pedal power.
CASUALTY 24/7
9PM, CH5 ★★★
Cameras return to Barnsley Hospital for a third series from the busy A&E department in Yorkshire. Sister Harriet Lindley keeps tabs on a busy shift of some 300 patients, including 94-year-old Normandy veteran Bert, and a little boy who is missing a fingertip. Volunteer Jane, meanwhile, wonders where all the pillows go.
MISTER WINNER
10PM, BBC2 ★★★
This gently farcical new comedy stars Spencer Jones as Leslie Winner, a buoyant chap who, despite his positive attitude, is stalked by misfortune. After a fire drill interrupts an acupuncture session, Leslie is made up when he acquires a selfplaying piano, and a new job opportunity beckons. SA
