VIRTUAL CHURCH SERVICE

8AM, BBC LOCAL STATIONS HHHH Church doors are closed, bells are silent, but the Virtual Church is open. Each Sunday morning a leader, from a different denomination, will lead a service that’s open to all. In his inaugural address, for this new service, the Archbishop of Canterbury said this ‘national wireless congregation’ would help combat the fears that isolation can bring and that joining in prayer and helping others will bring the gift of consolation. BBC local radio will also provide on-air spiritual reflections for other faiths.

SOUNDS OF THE 70S

3PM, RADIO 2 HHH

David Jensen was just 18 when he got a job as a DJ on Radio

Luxembourg, where he was nicknamed ‘The Kid’; he later went on to Radio 1. David joins his fellow DJ Johnnie Walker to look back to the music of the 1970s.

PATRICK KIELTY’S COMEDY HEROES

9PM, RADIO 2 HHHH Mel Brooks, who has been making the world laugh for 80 years, knew that he was born to be a comedian. He clearly remembers, or so he tells Patrick Kielty in this larky interview, relatives peering into his cradle and laughing their heads off. Mel – now in his 90s, and as funny as ever – talks about the business of being a comedian, and about the many movies he has made, including Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. It’s a wonderful trip down memory lane as Mel shares amazing tales from his phenomenal life. SJ
