JAMAICA: A BROTHER’S STORY

Steve Walker’s brother, Delroy, was a charity worker who dreamed of returning to the family’s roots in Jamaica when he retired. He saved enough money to build a home on the island – and it cost him his life. In this documentar­y, Steve looks at a spate of murders among the ‘returnee’ community.

This week, Classic FM is focusing on ‘secret piano concertos’, coming up with some unjustly neglected gems. Tonight, the Danish composer Friedrich Kuhlau, who was a friend of Beethoven’s, is in the spotlight. Kuhlau’s work, though wellregard­ed in his homeland, doesn’t get much of an airing in the UK. This selection of recordings includes Kuhlau’s Piano Concerto In C Major – and in it, you can hear Beethoven’s influence. SJ
