AMAZON PRIME DRAMA THE SECRET LIFE OF US

(All six parts) HHH It was Terry Pratchett’s dying wish for his vibrant fantasy comedy to be adapted for the screen. David Tennant and Michael Sheen play the demon and the angel trying to stop the end of the world.

MOVIE GOOD OMENS MUSIC HAPPINESS CONTINUES: A JONAS BROTHERS CONCERT FILM

HHH Whether or not you like their music, the Jonas Brothers (left) put on an amazing show. This gives you some idea of what it must be like to be at their concerts, as well as exploring how they all get on since the split and reunion.

ALEX RIDER: STORMBREAKER

(2006) PG ● HHH Teen spy drama that underperformed at the box office, but has a great supporting cast around Alex Pettyfer as agent Alex. It includes Bill Nighy, Ewan Mcgregor and Mickey Rourke. From Friday.

SKY ON DEMAND/ NOW TV DRAMA

(All five parts) HHHHH Beautifully played adaptation of James M. Cain’s novel, with

Kate Winslet as mother-oftwo Mildred, who must find her way in 1930s California after her husband leaves.

COMEDY

(All eight parts) HHHH It would have worked as a film, but this sweary Australian comedy about two unlikely companions has a lot of breathing room as a series. Tim Minchin plays the grumpier half of the bantering duo hauling a piano across the desert, while Milly Alcock (above, with Minchin) is his rebellious 16-year-old associate.

COMEDY

(Season 2) HHH Deeply strange and very British comedy about an isolated island nation. Stephen Fry guest stars as a hair expert, with Ben Miller as the leader of a tribe of feral accountants.

MOVIE MILDRED PIERCE UPRIGHT THIS IS JINSY GRAN TORINO

(2008) 15 HHH Clint Eastwood directs and stars as an angry Korean War veteran surrounded by Asian immigrants in this well-balanced drama. It’s a tale of prejudice on both sides.

(Youtube) HHH For three Saturdays in May at 6pm, the Lionsgate UK channel will be showing a different film for free. Tonight, it’s Eddie The Eagle, with Bend It Like Beckham and The Hunger Games to follow.

PAY MOVIES BIRDS OF PREY

(2020) 15 (BT TV Store, Sky Store, Virgin) HHHH Harley Quinn was the best thing about Suicide Squad, and Margot Robbie reprises the role of the Joker’s unhinged ex in this circus-like super-team adventure. There’s a lot of fun here, and more depth than there initially appears.

JOJO RABBIT

(2019) 12 (BT TV Store, Sky Store, Virgin) HHH Satirising the Nazis is a tricky business, so Taika Waititi’s wartime story about a boy whose imaginary friend is Hitler won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. It’s very interesting, though. Both from Monday.
