GREAT PAINTINGS OF THE WORLD WITH ANDREW MARR

8.15PM, CH5 ★★★★ Andrew Marr explores the story of Vincent van Gogh’s iconic Sunflowers in London’s National Gallery (right). It’s a remarkable painting, made up of multiple shades of yellow, with thick, visible brush strokes. But it’s also a piece with a sad heritage. Andrew retraces Van Gogh’s life, from his childhood in Brabant in the Netherlands to Paris with his brother, Theo, and on to Arles in Provence, where Sunflowers was painted. Van Gogh eagerly awaited the arrival of his friend, Paul Gauguin, in Arles, but his happiness was short-lived.
